Ten minutes after the water. A few checks a month.

The baseline from the owner’s manual. Always follow each component maker’s own recommendations too - Mercury, Eco Battery, Epoch and the rest. Hard use, salt or brackish water may call for more.

After every water day

Fresh-water rinse, top to bottom - mandatory after salt
Flush the outboard with fresh water
Pump the bilge and look for unusual water
Check the prop for dings, bends or line wrap
WD-40 on exposed metal, hinges and connections
Quick visual check of both batteries and connections

Monthly

Inspect grease at the hydraulic fittings - salt washes it out
Hydraulic fluid in both pumps - check with wheels up
Battery terminals clean, tight and protected
Brake fluid, steering freeplay and wheel nuts
Zinc anodes - replace at 50% consumed
Test the bilge pump, lights and nav lights
Walk the hull for abrasion, impact marks or bottom wear

The one thing owners forget

It parks like a car. It’s still a boat.

A boat on a trailer reminds you it was in the water. A WaterCar in the garage doesn’t. Rinse, flush, dry and inspect after every water day - salt water most of all. Skip it and corrosion shows up the same as on any boat, and that’s on care, not the build.

Plug out when parked. Plug in before launch.

Like any boat, pull the bilge plug when it’s parked so rain and wash water drain out instead of filling the hull. And always put it back in before you drive into the water.
