Certification

NMMA Certified

Not required by law. We do it anyway.

What it means

NMMA Certification is the marine industry’s independent check on how a boat is built. It goes beyond minimum U.S. Coast Guard requirements and verifies the boat against American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) standards.

Inspectors review the model and flag anything that falls short. It has to be fixed before certification is granted – and the review is repeated every model year.

What gets inspected

Fuel system – tanks, hoses and fittings
Electrical system and wiring
Bilge pumps
Navigation lights and horn
Steering helm and wheel
Maximum persons, weight and horsepower capacity

Judged twice

A WaterCar is held to two sets of rules. On the road it meets FMVSS 500 as a Low-Speed Vehicle. On the water, NMMA Certification means the boat side is built to the same standards as the best conventional boats on the dock.

What it means for you

Built to ABYC and U.S. Coast Guard standards
Independent, third-party inspection
Certified components throughout the boat
More confidence at resale

Look for the label

Every WaterCar carries the NMMA Certified label and a U.S. Coast Guard capacity plate.
